One Step Beyond$50,000.00This program was introduced to us by Jeff Beaudoin last year. It is a non-profit that works with developmentally disabled adults. They are currently in the process of building a community for these adults to live independently with assisted care. The broader program for this organization also gives out scholarships to their members, helps involve them in the community and gives them a safe place to enjoy. We really felt great about donating to this last year and we would really like to make a sizeable impact this year.
Buckeye School District $38,658.86The school district estimates they have 90 kids each day that do not have enough money to buy breakfast or lunch. To help the kids, the teachers and administrators have been donating to a pool so that the kids can eat during the day. Currently, the pool is not keeping up and they are $6,357.16 in the negative. After doing the math, we would like to donate this amount as it will take care of the debt plus feed the 90 kids through the rest of this school year and the 1st half of next school year. This would make a huge impact on the kids and probably the parents so that they know their kids will be eating at school.
Paloma Elementary School (Gila Bend)$60,000.00This school sits right within our territory in Gila Bend and the students that attend are children from the farm workers that are employed by our customers. The school officials tell us that they estimate the median income of the parents at around $20,000-$30,000/year, which leaves little for the school to work with on their budget or parents to commit to extra curricular activities. They have an annual 8th grade field trip for the kids that parents have to pay extra for, typically only a couple of students get to go. The teachers also pay out of their own pocket for any holiday parties, family fun nights, prizes for students throughout the year as well as field trips for all grades throughout the year. They also do not have enough money in the budget to purchase a lawn mower or gator for their fields thus their sports programs are very limited and suffer. We asked them to put together a proposal of what was needed and the total came up to about $40,000 for every student to not have to pay extra for any field trips, any extra curricular activities, new desks that are desperately needed and for the teachers to not have to pay for any holiday gifts, parties or family nights. We included an additional $20,000 so that they could purchase a gator and a mower to help take care of their grounds and give the kids a better after school program. We really feel strong about this as the administrators were very thankful for us reaching out and we know this is going to make a huge difference in kids lives in a very low income area.

Mary C. O’Brien Elementary School$35,700.00Mary C. O’Brien is, for a lack of a better word, a farm community school located ¼ mile north of the Casa Grande store location.  This school was originally built for migrant child whose parents worked on the farm.  It eventually extended its boundaries to include open enrollment for the surrounding communities. A common theme that we have seen amongst our school partners is budget cuts.  I personally toured the school and looked at several items the school is asking for to enhance the kids outside physical activities and playground time.  All of the playground equipment, swings, sandboxes and a small grass playground, are all in need of repair or replacement.  Their hope was to replace as much of the playground equipment as possible and also cover the swings with a canopy to keep them from getting too hot in the direct sun.
Casa Grande Elementary School-Backpack program$35,700.00CGESD started a program called the “Backpage program”.  Zayda Boudreau is the administrator of the program.  She oversees the all the homeless and transitional kids in Casa Grande and needs the funding to put together lunches for the weekends.  Zayda stated that the many of the kids rely on the breakfast and lunch provided by the school;  it’s their only meals for the day.  With this donation,  the program will be able to provide weekend meals for those kids in need.
Santa Cruz Football Team$34,550.00The Santa Cruz High School football team has fallen on some hard time in the past several years.   With School budgets being cut, this has affected the Santa Cruz High School team to the point of not having a season if they can’t get the proper funding or donations.   First year coach Tommy Cortez has been tasked with making the program work with no funding from the school.  They have no useable regulated equipment as everything is old and outdated.  The football program helps keep young men involved and off the streets.  The student/player has to maintain a certain grade point average to participate, so this also helps keep them on track in school.  If they do not get the regulation equipment and necessary items to fund their  program, unfortunately, they will not have a football season. The donation goes farther that just equipment.  It will help pay for football camps, meals before and after games, improvement of their locker room, etc.  At this point, the football team has no booster club or parent involvement to help offset the cost of what is needed to run a program.
